Winter Memories had her first work back
Monday morning since a powerhouse victory in the Grade 2 Lake George on July 27,
covering five furlongs in 59.29 over the Oklahoma turf course.
“It was nice and comfortable and
handy,” said Jimmy Toner, who trains the daughter of El Prado, out of Memories
of Silver, for the Phillips Racing Partnership. “It’s what we wanted; really
nice. The grass was good and the dogs were down, everything is good.”
Winter Memories, who is 3-for-3
this year including the Grade 2 Sands Point at Belmont Park and the Grade 3
Appalachian at Keeneland, is being pointed to the August 21 Lake Placid, which
Toner hopes will be followed by a start in the Grade 1 Garden City at Belmont
Park on September 17 and then the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at
Keeneland .
“It’s been two weeks since she
ran, so we’ll come back and do a nice, easy half-mile next week,” said
Toner.
