Christophe Clement said that Grassy and Winchester emerged from their respective third and fifth-place finishes in Saturday's Joe Hirsch Turf Classic in fair shape, though the trainer was puzzled by Winchester's lackluster effort.

"Grassy came back in good order, a little bit tired this morning," said Clement, who trains the 5-year-old son of El Prado for Adele B. Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm. "And Winchester came back okay, sound, scoped [clean] afterwards. He had a very disappointing race yesterday, so we'll go by elimination. I don't know. Maybe he just did not enjoy that type of ground. He trained very well going into the race, he was very aggressive in his training, but in a good way. We'll bring him back, we'll train him this week, maybe work him next weekend and then see what happened. I'm a bit troubled - He'd never a run a bad race; never in his life for us."

Both Grassy and Winchester exited wins going into the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, with Grassy taking the Grade 2 Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont Park on September 10 and Winchester capturing the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Invitational at Saratoga in August for owners/breeders, Mr. and Mrs. Bertram L. Firestone.
