While Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra was on the Pimlico track warming up for yesterday's Preakness Stakes, trainer Hal Wiggins was finishing fourth in a $30,000 maiden-claiming race at Churchill Downs.

"I thought it was just great," Wiggins said by phone. "I thought she'd win by a little easier, to be honest with you. …

"It wasn't hard. It was different, I guess would be the word. I was pulling for her just like I would if she was still here. I was wanting her to win, and naturally wanting her to have a safe trip. It wasn't difficult. I was just proud of her and (jockey) Calvin (Borel) and what they did."

Yes, and Asmussen was even classy about it... he probably figured there was no way he could take credit for it... so what the heck, go ahead and be nice for once. But in all seriousness... Wiggins did do an amazing job.
Wiggins deserves alot of credit for the development of Rachel Alexandra...he really did a masterful job in bringing her along. It was nice to see Asmussen acknowledge him and his work with the filly throughout the week prior to the running of the Preakness and immediately after her victory.
