Who Am I ???

Who Am I ???

*Bred in the great state of Kentucky, my sire was a top runner in multiple continents.

*I did not begin my career until I won my debut in the final week of my juvenile season.

*A winner of 50% of my races, I never failed to cash a check over my three-season racing career.

*My initial attempt in stakes company resulted in a six length romp.

*Once merely a checkpoint along the way, I gave my owner Kentucky Derby dreams.

*My experience in early May at Churchill Downs did not go quite as planned.

*I will not mince words, The Great Race Place was my track.

*My top two rivals competed in 39 and 9 more races respectively than I did.

*I never had the opportunity to run in the Breeders' Cup, but my stablemate and sister sure did.

*My final career race resulted in a solid second in a big race restricted to four-year-olds.

*You will not find me in a single stallion registry.

You should know by now … Who Am I ???

Before Dinard, last winner was Creative Cause, back in October. You've had your chances, lol.
Mary Z isn't allowed to play anymore, she's too good and fast! lol
My nephew knocked us offline right after my Churchill take but there was no way I was beating Mary Z. tonight. As for travel_vic>>the great Majestic Prince a New York colt? Get some sleep, sir.
Thanks Brian.
Yes shadowno, he raced against Olympio like 6 times in his brief career.
Often the big New York three year olds would swoop in and make the SA Derby a real interesting race Jim French, Majestic Prince, Marfa,
Affirmed, Bid, Winning Colors, Sham, Linda's Chief, Snow Chief and on and on.
Every winter the big stables in the East came out to try the big stables of the West and the fans were the recipients of that great rivalry....Back then, tax loopholes allowed people to decuct a considerable part of the costs of a stable so participation was far more widespread....A different time. Pink Pidgeon, Manta, Baffle, Quicken Tree, War Heim, Hanalei bay, Fort Marcy, Autobiography, Cougar , Fiddle Isle, Exceller, Lemhi Gold etc etc.
I do wish I'd seen it all back in the "hey day", even though I do love it now.
mary still follows that bankrupt meeting that once was great.......lets hope that California racing survives but it will not ever be the way it was in the hey day of the game...It is like a grand old theater of the thirties running "B" movies
Ok seems for sure that one of the rivals was Best Pal. Who is the other, Olympio?
Clapping with stnading O.
The one and only, Mary Z.
Nice checkpoint clue. Arazi_Cigar.
Thanks, cocoa, Brian, cpsoren--is he the Butttery Pancakes guy?
I thought the checkpoint reference might be a big clue. His sister was Eliza, by the way.
All clues pointed to an Allen Paulson horse, I just didn't know which one.
So, from the above comment, Strub stakes because I follow the SoCal races, then on to pedigreequery's stakes listings of first three finishers. First, I thought, a filly, since no stud record, but those few placers that were female did not fit the clues. Kinda got Dinard by a lucky pick. Found out he had to miss the Derby due to injury.
oh...I was thinking Althea as well.
Well played, Champ!!!
