Twelve years ago, I was lucky to attend a party at Jonabell Farm in
Lexington, Ky., to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Affirmed’s Triple
Crown triumph. The guest of honor patiently posed for pictures with
several partygoers, including one (guilty) who hugged him around the
neck and very nearly had to be pried off.
