Violette Re-elected to NYTHA Post

Trainer Rick Violette
The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association ("NYTHA") is pleased to announce that Richard A. Violette, Jr. has been re-elected by the membership to a second full term as its President.  Violette, a long-term New York horseman, has served on the NYTHA Board of Directors and its predecessor for more than two decades. He is widely recognized for his work in leading NYTHA through the bankruptcy and reorganization of NYRA, negotiating the horsemen's share of VLT revenues and anticipated backstretch improvements at the NYRA tracks, the reorganization and strengthening of the Backstretch Employees Service Team Program and acquiring state-of-the-art equipment for the New York Drug Testing and Research Program, and representing the horsemen's interests both in-state and nationally on all issues affecting horsemen.  He was the first NYTHA Director elected to the NYRA Board, is President of the national Thoroughbred Horsemen's Associations, Inc. and is Chairman of the New York Jockey Injury Compensation Fund.

"I am honored to serve once again as President of this great organization", said Violette.  "Any success we have enjoyed as an organization is due in no small part to the incredible support I get from, and the dedication of, the Board of Directors.  I am proud of the collegial relationship we have developed with Charlie Hayward and his team at NYRA.  We are also grateful for the support we have received from the Cuomo administration and our friends in Albany who have put us in the position of protecting the thousands of people who are employed in our business.  We are on the cusp of a new era for Thoroughbred racing in New York".

Owners re-elected to three (3) year terms are Michael P. Shanley (First Vice-President), William Terrill, William Discala and Steve Zorn.  Joining the Board is long time owner Herb Oster. Trainers re-elected to three (3) year terms are Pat Kelly (Second Vice President), Kiaran McLaughlin, Linda Rice and David Donk.  Joining the Board is long time trainer Richard Schosberg.

NYTHA is the recognized horsemen's organization for horsemen who race at Belmont Park, Aqueduct and Saratoga Race Course.  NYTHA has in excess of 5,000 members.
