Heavy favorite Valiant Star
broke her maiden by an impressive thirteen lengths in the featured race on
Sunday’s Fathers’ Day card at Colonial Downs.
Ridden by Eric Camacho, the
two year old Grand Slam filly chased the pace from the rail before taking a
five-length lead nearing the quarter pole and continuing to widen through the
stretch. Trix Are for Katz broke slowly but finished well to take second, while
Brandy’s Champ improved through the lane to run third. Making Lemonade,
Town, and My Graduate
rounded out the field for the 5 ½ furlong turf race.
Owned by Wolver Hill Farm and
trained by Ferris Allen, Valiant Star was making her second start after a place
finish earlier this month at Colonial.
Attendance for the track on
Fathers’ Day Sunday was 2,359, with several fathers walking away with free
recliners and having participated in an on-the-track footrace with their
