Valiant Star Romps at Colonial Downs

Heavy favorite Valiant Star broke her maiden by an impressive thirteen lengths in the featured race on Sunday’s Fathers’ Day card at Colonial Downs.

Ridden by Eric Camacho, the two year old Grand Slam filly chased the pace from the rail before taking a five-length lead nearing the quarter pole and continuing to widen through the stretch. Trix Are for Katz broke slowly but finished well to take second, while Brandy’s Champ improved through the lane to run third. Making Lemonade, Paulspinkchampagne, Mining Town, and My Graduate rounded out the field for the 5 ½ furlong turf race.

Owned by Wolver Hill Farm and trained by Ferris Allen, Valiant Star was making her second start after a place finish earlier this month at Colonial.

Attendance for the track on Fathers’ Day Sunday was 2,359, with several fathers walking away with free recliners and having participated in an on-the-track footrace with their children. Racing continues Monday, June 21 with a nine-race card that begins at 4:00 PM.
