Uncle Mo Cruises in Timely Writer

Uncle Mo cruises in the Timely Writer

Uncle Mo went wire-to-wire over four overmatched rivals in Saturday’s Timely Writer Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

The Timely Writer field was reduced to five after expected pace player Madman Diaries scratched, leaving Uncle Mo as the controlling speed. The Todd Pletcher trainee set pedestrian fractions of :25.53, :49.58, and 1:13.69 after a bit of an awkward start under John Velazquez.

Rattlesnake Bridge tracked the pace from the outside and made a run at Uncle Mo after seven furlongs in 1:24.94.

Uncle Mo quickly spurted away and Velazquez took a confident look back as he crossed the line 4-1/2 lengths in front of Rattlesnake Bridge, who was clearly second best.

Gallant Dreams finished 3rd and was followed by Rocking Out and Schoolyard Cat.

Overwhelming favorite Uncle Mo stopped the clock in 1:36.56 and paid $2.10 to win. The Repole Stable colorbearer is expected to make his next start in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 9.

that 89 was all it took to slap that crew around, i see no problem.
maybe he has a problem not known to the public,I don't know just throwing it out there
footlick nailed it, then when you add an 89 Beyers!!!- really Todd, really. You're going to have this horse ready for a mile & a quarter, a twenty horse field & a three figure Beyers.
Uncle Mo got an 89 Beyer for the Timely Writer.
The performance was exactly what everyone expected. Nothing more, nothing less. It's easy to get excited since we saw him actually run, but from 10,000 feet, it was a good first return. The water gets deeper from here, obviously.
He wired the field with slow fractions. So, what did we learn? Nothing! His chances in the derby don't look very good in my opinion. There are other horses that have come on the scene who I believe could take him down going 1 1/4 mile handily. Todd Pletcher does this horse no good either and if it wasn't for Repole he would run his final prep against non competitive horses again. I think its time to squash the idea he will be the next triple crown winner. For the ones that watch this game for enjoyment, I believe its still plausible that you support him but those that are in this game to make money, I see immense value elsewhere, and its not in Uncle Mo.
I would hope he could close in 22.4/5 when he ran the first 6 furlongs in 1:13 and change. All this told me is that he is a good horse. Not a test nor two turns.
I believe an improvement can be seen as it was very good for a work. When you run a mile and close in 22.4/5 he's ready.Distance is the only question, but just maybe...
I dare say Uncle Mo is pushed harder in morning workouts than what he was asked for in the Timely Writer Stakes. Doesn't appear to have lost anything since his B.C. Juvenile win. But in fairness, can't really gauge by this race if he's improved off of the Breeders Cup race either? IMO.
No big surprise there!
