Such savagery at the racetrack will not be tolerated!
Fans at Del Mar were treated to more than just an exciting finish in today’s sixth race, when Romeo Royale and Woodmans Luck approached the wire together in the one mile, optional claiming affair. Seemingly not able to get the best of his rival on the inside, it seems Woodmans Luck borrowed a page from Mike Tyson’s infamous book, How to win fans and satisfy your appetite at the same time. Rather than digging in with his four legs and giving it his all to stick his nose in front, Woodmans Luck instead reached over and tried to take whatever chunk out of Romeo Royale’s flesh a ferocious bite could muster.
The DRF race description for the feisty loser reads as follows, “Woodmans Luck settled between horses then inside, came out on the second turn and four wide into the stretch, drifted in some in midstretch, rallied outside to draw alongside the winner in deep stretch, tried to savage that rival near the wire and just missed.
My first thought after reading this race description was … Just missed what … his ear???
My next contemplation turned to the more sinister in nature. The conspiracy theorist in me wondered if trainer Mike Puype has started to teach his stable new, questionable, and downright ornery tactics. Perhaps Woodmans Luck is but the first of an entire Puype army ready to wage a toothy attack on anyone that dare stands in their way.
I quickly dismissed that idea and chalked it up to a lack of sleep. It’s more likely that Woodmans Luck was just having a bad day, or maybe he has just gotten sick and tired of losing. After today, his lifetime record now shows 7 second place finishes with only one win in nineteen lifetime starts … poor guy.
Oh well, in the end I guess I will just look to the vast wisdom of Clubber Lang … “I pity the fool!” I pity the unsuspecting fool who tries to feed Woodmans Luck a peppermint that is.
