The personnel at Louisville's River Road Asset Management investment firm are value investors, ferreting out stocks they believe are undervalued. It's typically pretty routine fare — grocery stores and prison operators. Not sexy but safe.

That business strategy stands in contrast to the new hobby of many of the River Road employees. They bought into a race horse owned in part by their boss, company co-founder Jim Shircliff.
