Today's Derby contender works included a four furlong breeze from Fountain of Youth hero Soldat. He goes next in the April 3 Florida Derby. J P’s Gusto drilled a strong five furlong bullet at Oaklawn Park in advance of the March 19 Rebel.   

 

#2 Soldat – Breezed 4f in :48.90 (8/51) at Palm Meadows.

#15 J P’s Gusto – 5f bullet in :59.40 (1/44) at Oaklawn.

#21 Sweet Ducky – 6f breeze in 1:13.90 at Palm Meadows.

#32 Nacho Business – 5f in 1:00.20 (2/21) at Palm Meadows.

#44 Cal Nation – 5f breeze in 1:00.90 (5/21) at Palm Meadows.

#47 Su Casa G Casa – Slow 4f breeze in :54.80 (64/64) at Fair Grounds.

#49 Bandbox – 6f in 1:11.80 at Laurel Park.

ajump08 I just watched the replay of the Southwest.Thanks for bringing it to my attention as I didn't realize it was also his first start of the year.I would appreciate your analisis of that race if it's not to much trouble.thanks
J P's Gusto should not be forgotten in the Rebel. Many will look at the likes of Astrology, Sway Away, Elite Alex, Alternation, and Archarcharch; and throw this one out saying he's simply not a two turn horse. J P is very versitile, and arguably could have been the best of the Southwest with his troubled trip. He's obviously thriving in Arkansas with his bullet work today in 59.40.
