Kentucky Derby contender

workouts for today (Thursday, March 10)

(with HRN Derby rankings):

It was another light day on the Derby works front. Bob Baffert sent Uncle Sam out for a five furlong move at Hollywood Park. Across town at Santa Anita, Robert Lewis Stakes (G2) 4th place finisher Thirtyfirststreet had a nice seven panel move for Doug O’Neill.

#80 Sovereign Default – Breezed 3f in :37.45 (4/6) at Palm Meadows.

#87 Uncle Sam – 5f in 1:00.40 (3/20) at Hollywood Park.

#102 Thirtyfirststreet – Went 7f in 1:24.20 (1/3) at Santa Anita.

#103 King Congie – 5f breeze in 1:03.25 (11/14) at Palm Meadows.

Other Works:

Black N Beauty (#108) breezed 4f in :48.65 (15/34) at Gulfstream. Read The Contract (#116) went 3f in :38.40 (5/6) at Palm Meadows.

Notes:

Edgar Prado will ride Machen in the Louisiana Derby. Pluck will go in a one-mile turf allowance at Tampa Bay instead of the G3 Palm Beach at Gulfstream Park on 3-12. Rogue Romance has a foot bruise and will miss the Louisiana Derby. A majority interest has been sold in Silver Medallion but he will reportedly remain with Steve Asmussen.
