Today's Kentucky Derby Contender Works (2-27-11)

Kentucky Derby contender

workouts for today (Sunday, Feb. 27)

(with HRN Derby rankings):

Today's Derby contender works included a shared five furlong bullet from stablemates Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty. The latter is expected to make his three-year-old bow in the Gotham Stakes on March 5. The two-year-old champ kicks off his season in the Timely Writer at Gulfstream on March 12.

#1 Uncle Mo – Went 5f in 1:00.60 (1/36) at Palm Meadows.

#6 Brethren – 4f breeze in :49.40 (12/48) at Palm Meadows.

#19 Stay Thirsty – 5f co-bullet in 1:00.60 (1/36) at Palm Meadows.

#28 Sweet Ducky – 6f in 1:13.20 at Palm Meadows.

#30 Dance City – Breezed 4f in :49.60 (20/48) at Palm Meadows

#59 Free Entry – 4f in :49.40 (12/48) at Palm Meadows.

[Were you impressed with Soldat in the Fountain of Youth? How about Flashpoint’s strong effort in the Hutcheson? Log in and rank your 2011 Kentucky Derby contenders!]

Other Works:

Gangsterontherun (#123) went a brisk 5f in :59.80 (2/23) at Gulfstream. Ronin Dax (#128) breezed 5f in 1:03.80 (25/33) at Tampa Bay. Inhisglory (#132) breezed 5f in 1:01.60 (15/48) at Fair Grounds. Cal Nation (#142) went 5f in 1:02.40 at Palm Meadows.

Notes:

Soldat earned a 96 BSF for his Fountain of Youth victory. Flashpoint ran his record to 2-for-2 in a romping Hutcheson score, which netted a 102 BSF. It is possible that the latter will stretch out in distance for the April 3 Florida Derby.

thanks gardenesque, I didn't even notice. My bad.
Hey ajump08, according to the Road to the Roses rules, points for your selected jockeys and trainers are awarded for a win only.
Uncle Mo...I've got a feeling that Timely Writer is not going to fill. I doubt to see Dialed In there, and every three year old in Miami either ran at Fair Grounds, ran on Saturday in the three three year old restricted races, or are pointed to a race somewhere else down the road. I still don't count out seeing Pletcher duo Uncle Mo and Brethren running uncoupled in the Tampa Bay Derby. Excellent work (his bullet is better than his stablemate because he works on the outside of Stay Thirsty). Sweet Ducky is dangerous in the Florida Derby, I think he's better than Gourmet Dinner (recent 2nd place finisher in the FOY). Could be a classic showdown with Brethren, Soldat, Dialed In, Sweet Ducky, Gourmet Dinner, etc.
Roadtotheroses, the points for my jockeys/trainer were not fully supplied. I got the 8pts for McLaughlin; Pletcher, J Velazquez, and Dominguez all placed in the graded stakes but got no points. Hopefully, this will be corrected shortly.
