Today's Derby contender works included a five furlong bullet from Champagne Stakes (G1) show finisher I’m Steppin’ It Up. Humble And Hungry, 8th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, breezed four furlongs over the all-weather surface at Sagamore Farm.     

 

#36 Humble And Hungry – Breezed 4f in :49.20 (3/4) at Sagamore Farm.  

#62 I’m Steppin’ It Up – 5f bullet in :59.60 (1/33) at Gulfstream Park.   

#102 Adulare – 4f in :50.50 (35/42) at Palm Meadows.

Heron Lake (#103) went 3f in :36.90 (3/8) at Palm Meadows. Prime Cut (#126) breezed 4f in :51.40 (60/66) at Fair Grounds. Cane Garden Bay (#155) breezed 4f in :49.20 (16/42) at Palm Meadows. 


Notes:


Arch Traveler stalked, pounced, and held off Nacho Business in the 3rd race at Gulfstream Park on Feb 26. The nine furlong allowance test, a possible prep for the April 3 Florida Derby, was run in 1:52.36 and the runner-up was finishing the better of the two.

Older Comments about Today's Kentucky Derby Contender Works (2-26-11)...

Good to see Heron Lake with another work (he defeated Arch Traveler in his maiden debut 1/15). Dialed In may be Zito's now three year old, but Heron Lake could be the one for the summer. Hopefully both live up to the promise they've shown early. As for that Allowance race, I think Nacho Business is the better of the two. He was just victimized by that :49 and change 1/2 mile, and a slight lack of experience.
