Kentucky Derby contender

workouts for today (Monday, Feb. 21)

(with HRN Derby rankings):

Today's Derby contender works featured a four furlong bullet from Fountain of Youth hopeful To Honor And Serve. He closed at 10-1 in Pool 1 of the Derby Future Wager and his form was flattered when Mucho Macho Man won the Feb 19 Risen Star.

#2 To Honor And Serve – 4f bullet in :48.20 (1/23) at Payson Park.

#7 Jaycito – 7f from the gate in 1:24.80 at Hollywood Park.

#17 Silver Medallion – Breezed 4f in :50.80 (52/60) at Santa Anita.

#28 Wilkinson – 4f in :49.20 (20/67) at Fair Grounds.

#46 Runflatout - 5f in 1:01.20 (38/74) at Santa Anita.

Other Works:

Fort Larned (#83) breezed 5f in 1:02.90 at Palm Meadows.  Washington’s Rules (#100) worked 4f in :48.30 (4/25) at Gulfstream. Awesome Patriot (#101) uncorked a 6f bullet in 1:11.40 (1/13) at Hollywood Park for trainer Bob Baffert. Turf Paradise Derby hopeful Indian Winter (#136) went 6f in 1:12 (4/18) at Santa Anita.

Notes:

Clubhouse Ride is off the Derby trail with a hairline fracture of his right ankle. Dialed In will not run in the Feb 26 Fountain of Youth. Nick Zio will look for another two turn prep for the April 3 Florida Derby. Tiz Blessed, trained by Chad Brown, has been sent to Kentucky for an exam. His trainer is concerned that something is not quite right. Monday’s Southwest Stakes from Oaklawn Park has attracted a field of 11 including J P’s Gusto (#15), Caleb’s Posse (#35), Grant Jack (#41), Yankee Passion (#59), and the promising Elite Alex (#97).

What the Nation is saying about Today's Kentucky Derby Contender Works (2-21-11)...

To Honor And Serve quietly drilled a best of 23 bullet at Payson Park on Feb 21 but it didn't seem to get much play in the racing press. I'm looking forward to his Fountain of Youth return.
