Toast "I'll Have Another" With A Belmont Breeze

If the racing gods smile on Saturday, we will toast a new Triple Crown Champion, and those glasses should be filled with official drink of the Belmont Stakes - the Belmont Breeze.

The Belmont Breeze replaced the White Carnation as the official drink of the Belmont in 1998. While there are several ingredients to remember,  this summer sipper is worth the trouble. So dust off your shaker, because the 2012 Belmont Stakes promises to be toast-worthy!

Belmont Breeze

1½ oz. bourbon
½ oz. cream sherry
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
½ oz. simple syrup
Splash fresh orange juice
Splash cranberry juice
5 mint leaves

In a cocktail shaker, shake all ingredients well with ice.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with orange peel, mint sprig, and strawberry, if desired.

Garnish:
1 mint sprig
1 orange zest
1 strawberry
