Pamela C. Ziebarth’s consistent Tiz Flirtatious, a California-bred
daughter of Tizbud who has never been worse than third in ten starts
while winning six times, will face familiar rival Lady of Shamrock and
three other older fillies and mares in Sunday’s Grade II $250,000 John
Stakes at Del Mar.
In addition to Tiz Flirtatious and Lady of Shamrock who are expected
to battle for favoritism in the mile and one-eighth race over Del Mar’s
infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course, the Mabee attracted My Gi Gi,
Customer Base and Journaliste.
Julien Leparoux again has the mount on Tiz Flirtatious who comes into
Sunday’s race from a narrow defeat by a head to the classy Marketing
Mix in the Grade I Gamely Stakes in late May at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Tiz Flirtatious won the Grade II Santa Ana Stakes last winter at Santa
According to allowance conditions, both Tiz Flirtatious and Lady of Shamrock will pack 121 pounds.
Lady of Shamrock, who will have Rafael Bejarano aboard as she dons
blinkers, was a well-beaten third in the Gamely Stakes and then
journeyed east to run second to Starformer in the New York Stakes at
Belmont Park June 29. As a three-year-old, Lady of Shamrock was a
two-time Grade I winner, capturing the American Oaks and Del Mar Oaks in
Rounding out the line-up are My Gi Gi, with Corey Nakatani; Customer
Base, Mike Smith, and Argentine-bred Journaliste, with Martin Pedroza.
My Gi Gi Gi was third in the Royal Heroine Mile at Betfair Hollywood
Park most recently, Customer Base won the Lucie Manet last time out ,
and Journaliste was sixth in the Time to Leave, a five-furlong turf
sprint. All three will carry 119 pounds each.
