Mine That Bird Bath Mine That Bird, winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), will have surgery Aug. 18 to correct an entrapped epiglottis, trainer Chip Woolley said. The son of Birdstone will still be pointed for the $1-million Shadwell Travers Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga on Aug. 29. According to Woolley, the entrapped epiglottis was detected during a routine scope performed by Dr. James Hunt on Mine That Bird following his morning work at Saratoga earlier in the day. What the Nation is saying about Throat Surgery for Derby Winner...

Yes, the timing of the Super Derby (Sept. 19th) gives the Mine That Bird camp a healing period, and they still have seven weeks to the BC Classic. Makes the most sense to go that route.
If the connections want a shot at the BC Classic, going to the Super Derby is the logical thing to do for Mine That Bird. Give this boy a chance to recover.
Agree. The Super Derby seems like the best alternative to the Travers for Mine That Bird.
I think they should skip the Travers and go to the Super Derby.
