Trainer Bob Baffert had his choice between two $1 million, Grade I races Saturday for Jaycito.

The problem with the Santa Anita Derby was that Santa Anita Park's dirt track plays to speed, not good for a stretch runner. The problem with Aqueduct's Wood Memorial was making a cross-country trip to run against unbeaten champion Uncle Mo.


Ultimately Baffert chose to stay home at Santa Anita, figuring the overriding objective is to set up Jaycito for the May 7 Kentucky Derby.

that plays to speed can't be an excuse prepeg closed and won by 7. the only thing i don't like about jaycito is he has to go wide all the time.
He needs to run a 100 speed figure is what he needs. Heck, even a 90"s figure makes you think twice. I'm giving him one more chance with the blinkers on. He really needs to move forward.
