The Kiddie List - July 1, 2014

The Kiddie List searches for the best and brightest of this next generation of two-year-olds. Dullahan, El Padrino, Take Charge Indy, Union Rags, Creative Cause, Drill, Dreaming of Julia, Beholder, Kauai Katie, Emollient, Fortify and countless other runners were featured on the Kiddie List before they hit the national radar. Many juveniles that were introduced on the Kiddie List rewarded their backers with double digit wins.

The Kiddie List will spotlight the top workers and blue bloods breezing four furlongs and farther, plus some entries and results.  I’ll cover the New York, Kentucky, California and Florida tracks, and occasionally Arlington, Fair Hill and Monmouth.    If a particularly well bred baby shows up at another track, I’ll include that one as well. Due to the enormous number of juveniles, some of these names may show up only once or twice.  You can find more of this season’s two year olds on the 2015 Kentucky Derby Contenders and 2015 Kentucky Oaks Contenders lists.

RECENT WINNERS

Stanford  (Malibu Moon - Rosy Humor, by Distorted Humor) (C) $550K BESMAR14; mentioned on the June 22 Kiddie List.  In a professional debut at Monmouth Park, the Todd Pletcher trainee was hustled out of the gate, but needed some time to get going.  He was pushed along from fifth, but once Stanford found his stride, he quickly collared the leader around the far turn, took control and drew off by  1 ½ lengths, winning the 5F MSW in a sharp :59.53.  He held a fairly straight path down the lane, but appears to slightly paddle with his left fore.  Stanford has the conformation and pedigree to handle two turns. Stanford is the second of his dam’s of three foals to race. A half sibling was unplaced in one start. The dam was 0-3 in her career, but this female family is a product of careful Claiborne farm breeding.  The second dam Show Me the Roses is a ¾ sister to Champion JOHANNESBURG.

Conquest EclipseConquest Eclipse (Malibu Moon - Grand Traverse Bay, by Repriced) (F) $179K KEESEP13;  zipped gate to wire in a 6F MSW on Sunday at Churchill Downs. She was challenged briefly at the ½ pole, but let out another notch and won comfortably by 1 ½ lengths. Trained by Mark Casse, Conquest Eclipse stopped the clock in 1:11.48.  All of her dam’s three foals have raced, but Conquest Eclipse is the first to win. Her unraced dam is a half to Sweet Damsel, who bore Travers Stakes winner and sire COLONEL JOHN

Holywell (Exclusive Quality - All Saint's Day, by Gold Case) (F) After being outrun in her 5F debut and placing third, Holywell came back two weeks later to score in a 5 ½ F MSW at Guflstream Park on Saturday.  Breaking sharply, the Tracy Pinchin trainee led the whole way, winning by a length in 1:05.22.  Hollywell is a half to John Franks Juvenile Fillies Turf winner SINISTER BREW (by Milwaukee Brew).  Her unraced dam is a half to G-3 winner GOLDEN MYSTERY and stakes placed BELOVEDA.

In this case, both Super Saver and Gulch Affair descend from the 1-x female family of La Troienne.  So far, Super Saver’s offspring are 0-8.  They will likely be best as mid – to – late season two year olds and improve with distance and maturity.

The third dam RAINBOW CONNECTION was a two-time Canadian Champion and Broodmare of the Year.  Algernon has the pedigree to be a classic contender, but so far, this branch of the family hasn’t lived up to their breeding.

Dubai Sky (Candy Ride (ARG) - House of Danzing, by Chester House) (C ) :49.86 (7/38) Turf training.  This is a full brother to MGSW TWIRLING CANDY winner of the Malibu (G-1), Del Mar Derby (G-2) etc. He’s also a half to ETHNIC DANCE (Tribal Rule) who won the Del Mar Derby.   Juvie SW CHOCOLATE CANDY (Candy Ride) is a member of this female family and the blue hen Won’t Tell You, dam of the great AFFIRMED is Dubai Sky’s fourth dam.

Keep an eye on her.

Silver City is a new sire y'all need to keep an eye on. His first crop are 2yos currently, and although he has very few named foals, he already has a stakes winner and a graded stakes placed fill and gelding.
GO CONQUEST!!
Lots of well bred babies to follow this summer and fall. This will be especially useful for the upcoming SAR and Del Mar meets.
Zozo finished fourth in his maiden race, as a $48 horse won. I Spent It won the other MSW at Belmont on Wednesday.
