TVG, America’s
Horseracing Network, will present exclusive, live, on-site coverage of the $1,000,000
Queen’s Plate, the opening leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, Sunday from
Toronto’s Woodbine Racecourse.
In addition to the Queen’s Plate, North
America’s oldest race, TVG’s coverage will also feature three graded undercard
stakes, highlighted by the Grade II, $250,000 King Edward Stakes presented by
TVG. Also on tap are the Grade II, $200,000 Highlander Stakes and the Grade
III, $150,000 Singspiel Stakes. On hand to offer expert commentary and analysis
will be Paul LoDuca.
“The Queen’s Plate is Canada’s version of
the Kentucky Derby and one of North America’s most important races,” said Tony
Allevato, TVG Executive Vice President. “We look forward to bringing it to our
viewers.”
A field of 14 is expected for the Queen’s
Plate, led by Plate Trial winner River
Rush. Twenty-five Plate Trial winners have gone on to capture the Queen’s
Plate. Trainer Mark Casse has a trio of contenders – Dixie Strike, Golden Ridge and
Making Amends, while Roger Attfield, who will send out Colleen’s Sailor, goes for a record ninth victory in the event. Todd Pletcher will saddle Big Creek. Rounding out the field are Classic Bryce, Irish Mission, Macho Whiskey,
Peyton, Strait of Dover, Ultimate
Destiny, Washington Dash and Wilcox.
