Nine expected to enter Sunland Derby

With the defection of Titletown Five, there are now nine horses considered probable for the Grade 3, $800,000 Sunland Derby on Sunday.

Sunland Park officials said Shakin It Up, winner of the Grade 2 San Vicente, and Govenor Charlie, an impressive maiden special weight winner at Santa Anita, are both expected for trainer Bob Baffert.

Flashback is going to make the SA Derby a crap prep. They'll go too fast, get tired, and end up in something like 1:47 and change
Agreed with you PP. At least send one of the many good contenders.
Another BIG would be missing out in the SA Derby. The race looks to be coming up short, aside from the probable favorites Flashback and HTG, Pletcher should be shipping Bobby to steal the dam thing, and better his chances of making the Derby.
It doesn't look like the best group of 3 year olds to run so far, but one of them is going to have the points to get in the Derby. I am a little surprised that at least one of the more highly regarded horses is not entered, there are not that many "win and you're in" races left, and the 100 point races are going to be tough.
Big missed opportunity, imo, for top tier 3 year olds to collect points.
Shakin It Up, Dry Summer, and Governer Charlie will lead the finish at the wire....
