Summer Hit Returns to Turf in California Dreamin’

Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Summer Hit, 55-days removed from a victory in the  Grade III All America Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Tapeta, returns to the turf as the 5-2 morning line favorite in the $150,000  California Dreamin’ Handicap, co-feature on Sunday’s  nine-race card.

Marty Jones-trained Compari is next at 3-1. And among the other seven entrants for the 1 1/16-mile turf run is Barry Abrams-trained Starspangled Heat. The 5-year-old gelded son of prominent  California sire Unusual Heat has been away since April 14, but returns to the Jimmy Durante Turf Course where he has a win and second in three starts.

“It’s a tough race, it’s a wide open race and every horse in there looks like it has a good chance to win,” Abrams said. “Starspangled Heat is stretching out  (from his last eight starts)  and hopefully he gets a good trip and he can compete.

“Whoever gets the best trip is going to win.”
