The trackman’s comments on the past performances for Grade 1
Travers entrant Stealcase are full
of frustrations for the Lawyer Ron colt’s connections.
- “Bit awkward
break”
- “Bumped
start”
- “Rank,
steadied early”
- “Hit gate,
awkward break”
It’s the story of a horse that assistant trainer Norman Casse
believes has been his own worst enemy.
When he gets away from the gate well, Stealcase has proven dangerous.
He finished third in the Grade 3 Derby Trial, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of
100, and then won an allowance by four lengths with another clean beginning in
his next start.
“I’m happy if he’ll break good, and he’ll be
close,” said Casse, who assists his father, Mark Casse, with the
preparation of Stealcase for owner John Oxley. “And, believe me,
he’s fast. If you go back and look at the Derby Trial, he was cooking.
I’d just like to see him run good one time to see how good he is because
he’s always getting in his own way.”
