Jeremy Noseda is concerned Awesome Act may find his stamina stretched to the limit as he bids to land the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Awesome Act won the Gotham Stakes on his first start in America before being comprehensively beaten by Eskendereya in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on the same Aqueduct track earlier this month.

What the Nation is saying about Stamina Concerns for Awesome Act...

not a bit ahs 2nd race back profile (without shoe loss) put this one right there close with a decent rip.

AA's Dam stats: HOUDINIS HONEY (USA) ch. M, 1996 DP = 25-10-24-0-1 (60) DI = 3.62 CD = 0.97 - 10 Starts, 3 Wins, 3 Places, 0 Shows Career Earnings: $92,412. 60! chef de race sire points. 24 Classic points. AWESOME AGAIN (CAN) b. H, 1994 DP = 12-0-8-0-2 (22) DI = 2.67 CD = 0.91 - 12 Starts, 9 Wins, 0 Places, 2 Shows Career Earnings: $4,374,590. He has every right and the breeding to be a Derby winner, imho
He galloped out in 1:24+!! Sid went out in 1:26+. I said it before. AA is a NICE horse. His move in the Gotham off a lay off was well above average. What if he didn't lose the shoe and finishes 2nd by 4 to Esky? Dismiss this horse at your own risk. :)
Honest assessment? What's that? That would certainly be welcome here. Awesome Act is a nice horse with a good shot, but I have no idea why he is the "wiseguy" horse in here. He beat an incredibly weak field in the Gotham.
In the Racing Post or Paris Turf, trainers are required to give relatively honest assessments of thier horses progress or lack thereof.
It is refreshing to hear a trainer voice honest concerns. They are all coming up to the race great for US trainers.
This is a worrisome comment. Although, I do think British trainers are much more likely to voice concerns before a race than their American counterparts. Still, not really a vote of confidence is it?
awesome act is now every ones wise guy horses this year looking at less then 10-1 ):
He lost a shoe at the start. Lep said he never felt comfy. Breeding says 1 1/4mi is the limit. ex LaL/AA?
yeah theirs more to that article tho i think he might have bounced he does have the pedigree tho
Interesting UK piece about Awesome Act. Sounds like trainer Jeremy Noseda is concerned about the Derby distance. "It is a shame the favourite is out because it detracts from the spectacle but my worry is the trip," said Noseda. "I wish the distance could be reduced because he didn't look like he got home [over 1m 1f] in the Wood Memorial, although maybe I'm reading too much into his defeat.
