Trainer Kelly Breen reported his two Resorts Casino Hotel
Haskell runners, Ruler On Ice and Pants On Fire, came out of the race in fine
shape as he plots their paths for the remainder of the season.
“They came back perfect,” Breen said. “They’re both doing just fine.”
Ruler On Ice, winner of the Belmont Stakes, came with his
run along the inside in Sunday’s Haskell, finishing third, 2 ½ lengths behind
race winner Coil and runner-up Shackleford.
Pants On Fire, winner of the Louisiana Derby (G2) and
Pegasus Stakes (G3), checked in fifth in the field of eight runners.
“The Travers (Aug. 27 at Saratoga) will likely be the next start for
Ruler On Ice,” Breen said. “We’ll look
at the Smarty Jones ($300,000, Sept. 5 at Parx) for Pants On Fire. That’s the prep for the Pennsylvania Derby
($1 million, Grade 2, Sept. 24 at Parx).
Nothing is set in stone, but George (owner Hall) and I will talk it over
and make a decision from there.”
