Wise Dan, winner of
the Grade 2 Fourstardave Handicap on August 11, continued to hold his sharp
form, turning in a sensational 45.89-second four-furlong turf work this morning
on the Oklahoma
course. The work was the best of 45 at the distance, and trainer Charles
Lopresti had Wise Dan going five furlongs in :56 3/5 and galloping out six
furlongs in 1:10.
“I was looking for a 48 [second work], in hand,” said
Lopresti, who is pointing Wise Dan to the Grade 1, $1 million Woodbine Mile on
September 23. “He’s just a freak of nature. You never want a horse
to go that fast for his first work [after a race], but if you don’t have
a watch on him, you don’t know. He’s just galloping.”
