Souper Speedy Slight Choice in Remsen

Live Oak Plantation will be well-represented in the 1 1/8-mile Remsen, race 7, with Tom Albertrani set to saddle Souper Speedy, the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the 10-horse field. A son of Indian Charlie, Souper Speedy debuted a winner on October 1 going seven furlongs over a muddy track at Belmont at odds of 31-1.

"Hopefully he got a little education out of his first race," Albertrani said. "I wasn't expecting to see him run as well. I thought he was a talented horse, but I also thought he was going to need a race to kind of figure things out. He learned real quick. He's been training well, and I'm expecting to see another good effort out of him."

Souper Speedy will leave from post 2 on Saturday with Jose Lezcano aboard.

Another Belmont maiden winner, Let's Go Stable's El Padrino, will also look to step up in the Remsen. Saddled by Todd Pletcher to a runner-up finish behind B Shanny in his debut at Saratoga on August 20, El Padrino encountered shin issues and did not run again until October 29, splashing to a 12 ¾-length maiden victory over a sloppy track.

"We did what we had to do and backed off him a little bit," said assistant Whit Beckman. "He's a big horse - one of the bigger 2-year-olds that we have in our program - height, but also just body. He's a real, powerful, well-built thick individual. He's always trained well, breezed well, and done everything like he was going to be a good horse, but we knew it was going to take just a little bit more time to let everything catch up. The way he's bred, I don't think the distance will be any problem. He does everything like he wants to go two turns."

John Velazquez will ride the son of Pulpit, tabbed at 7-2 on the morning line, from the rail.

Pletcher will also send out Our Entourage in the Remsen, a second-out maiden winner going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Saratoga. Previously the son of Street Cry was runner-up to the well-regarded Fire On Ice in a six-furlong race at Saratoga, and he most recently finished fifth in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

"He's a 2-year-old that has started on all three surfaces, which is a rarity at this point," said Beckman. "We know that a mile and an eighth won't be a problem for him. As far as whether or not dirt will be his preferred surface rather than turf, right now we're just trying to see where he fits."

Cornelio Velasquez has the call aboard Our Entourage, 8-1 on the morning line, from post 4.

Shipping in from Maryland for trainer Graham Motion is My Meadowview Farm's Stephanoatsee, a half-brother to Preakness winner Shackleford. Beaten a half-length in his debut at Laurel Park on September 16, the son of A.P. Indy closed successfully to take a one-mile off-the-turf maiden race there five weeks later. Ramon Dominguez has the call aboard the 4-1 morning line third choice from post 6.

Completing the Remsen field are Done Talking, Mucho Mas Macho, Managed Account, O'Prado Again, Speightscity and Scatter a Star.
