Two features of the July 4 holiday weekend were the victories achieved by 3-year-old sprinters Munnings
and Zensational
,
who both captured prestigious graded stakes wins while defeating older
horses. On the East Coast, Munnings accounted for the Tom Fool Handicap
(gr. II), scoring by 2 1/4 lengths while running seven furlongs in a
swift 1:21.08. A few hours later on the West Coast, Zensational led
throughout in the Triple Bend Handicap (gr. I) to tally by a length
while negotiating seven panels of Hollywood Park’s all-weather track in
1:21.34.
