Soldat, winner of the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park
on February 26, has been sent to a farm in Lexington for a month or two with a
possible return to the races in the fall, according to McLaughlin.
“His feet were just a little tender
and we wanted to stop on him and hopefully have a top horse in the fall or next
year,” said McLaughlin of the 3-year-old War Front colt. “There wasn’t anything
specifically wrong with him. We just had a gut feeling that he wasn’t doing as
well as he was before the [Kentucky] Derby.”
Soldat, who ran second in the Grade
2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf as a 2-year-old, will return to the grass upon
his return, according to McLaughlin.
