Alan Klein calls the confluence of events that have culminated in Smiling Tiger representing Northern California in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint on Saturday at Churchill Downs a matter of karma.
"There's something about the whole story, so many fateful decisions," said Klein, who lives in Burlingame and co-owns Smiling Tiger with Portola Valley resident Phil Lebherz.
"I want to knock on wood," Lebherz said.
Smiling Tiger is trained by Pleasanton native Jeff Bonde and will be ridden in the Breeders' Cup by Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze of Woodside.
