Shackleford Turns Tables in Preakness

Preakness captures the 2011 Preakness over Animal Kingdom
Kentucky Derby 4th place finisher Shackleford turned the tables on Animal Kingdom in the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.

Flashpoint went straight to the front with Shackleford pressing through solid fractions of :22.69, :46.87, and 1:12.01. Astrology, Midnight Interlude, and Dance City were in the early mix as well.

Shackleford took over the running after Flashpoint threw in the towel and opened up a length advantage in the lane.

Astrology tried to make a race of it from the rail and Animal Kingdom was rallying down the middle of the stretch.

In the end Shackleford had enough left to hold off Animal Kingdom by a 1/2 length with Astrology another length and a quarter back in 3rd.

Dialed In rallied to complete the superfecta and Dance City ran 5th all the way around the track. A wide Mucho Macho Man was next followed by King Congie, Mr. Commons, Isn't He Perfect, Concealed Identity, Norman Asbjornson, Sway Away, Midnight Interlude, and Flashpoint.

Shackleford, a 3-year-old son of Foresty, was ridden to victory by Jesus Castanon. The Dale Romans trainee paid $27.20 and completed his mile and three sixteenths journey in 1:56.47.

I think Shackleford is the real deal and I just hope he runs in the Belmont to prove it!
Anyone can tell by looking at the Kentucky Derby that Shackleford was NO Competition for Animal Kingdom or Dialed In realistically.
I believe that Animal Kingdom and Dialed I n were boxed in some kind of way, and also I think the jockey's stayed in the rear of the pack too long. Astrology was NOT a Better horse than most of them that raced that day.
Anna way the..... WHAT THE .... Oh well, on to the next card. Guess I was only off by 1/5th at the half, just what the speed needed to have a chance. Hats off to Jesus for running an uncanny race. How could he feel to slow his horse by 5L? Wow. Congratulations to Dale Romans also. He looked like he'd just eaten the bird. Am I the only one who thought Velazquez offered a few too many excuses/
