Setsuko, who faded to last of nine
in the stretch in the Pacific Classic, was gelded on Tuesday, Hall of Fame
trainer Richard Mandella reported on Wednesday morning.
The Pacific Classic result was the
latest in a series of disappointments that has left the son of 2004 Pacific
Classic winner Pleasantly Perfect and the Mr. Prospector mare Dance With Grace,
1-for-16 lifetime, albeit with earnings of $471,686.
Setsuko was third to Bourbon Bay as
the 3-2 favorite in the Grade III Cougar II Handicap on July 29 in his previous
start of the meeting.
“Now we’ll give him a rest and point
him for the Santa Anita meeting,” Mandella said. “Maybe he’ll be a better
racehorse as a gelding.”
