Santa Anita to Offer Beholder, Mizdirection Posters

Santa Anita Park, host of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 1 & 2, will provide all on-track attendees a pair of beautiful full-color posters depicting 2012 Breeders’ Cup Champions Beholder and Mizdirection on opening day of the 2013 Autumn Meet, Friday, Sept. 27.

Trained by Richard Mandella and owned by B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm, eventual Eclipse Champion Beholder was an impressive winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, while Mizdirection defeated a world-class field of males in taking the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.  By Mizzen Mast, Mizdirection is owned in-part by sports-talk superstar Jim Rome’s Jungle Racing and is trained by Mike Puype.

“We’ll be hosting the Breeders’ Cup for the seventh time in November and we expect both Beholder and Mizdirection will be able to again compete here this fall,” said Santa Anita Senior Vice President, Racing and Gaming, Tom Ludt.  “We’ll be offering everyone posters of these two magnificent champions on opening day and we’ll also be honoring one of the greatest jockeys of all time in Eddie Delahoussaye.  We’re looking forward to getting the meet off to a great start and the Breeders’ Cup is certainly going to be the focal point of our efforts.”

The Grade III, $100,000 Eddie D. Stakes, for 3-year-olds and up at 6 ½ furlongs down the Camino Real Turf Course, will highlight the opening day action, with first post time set for 1 p.m.

Retired Hall of Fame jockey Delahoussaye will be on-hand to present the trophy for the race named in his honor.

Santa Anita will offer five grade I Breeders’ Cup prep stakes on Saturday, Sept. 28, on what is billed as Breeders’ Cup Challenge Day.  On-track attendees will receive a free Breeders’ Cup Tote Bag and radio station KROQ will present a concert featuring Shiny Toy Guns and special guest, Lose Control, in the track’s Infield Area, which will also play host to top Food Trucks and a Microbrew Festival.
