Santa Anita Sprint Rivals to Meet Again in BC

A rematch looms in the $1.5 million XpressBet Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 among Coil, Capital Account, Jimmy Creed and Amazombie, the first four finishers in Saturday’s Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

Coil, trained by Bob Baffert, beat stablemate Capital Account by a head in the six- furlong race. Capital Account was three-quarters of a length in front of Jimmy Creed, who was a half-length better than defending Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion Amazombie, the 4-5 favorite ridden by Mike Smith.

“Both ran gallant races,” Baffert said Sunday morning of Coil and Capital Account, each off at 7-1 odds. “They’ll both run back in the Sprint.”

Said Richard Mandella of the 3-year-old Jimmy Creed: “He came out good. I think I would consider the Breeders’ Cup Sprint with him.”

Smith hasn’t lost confidence in Amazombie despite yesterday’s disappointing defeat. “He should improve off that race,” the Hall of Fame rider said. “I’m not at all discouraged. I think he’ll move up off that race. I think he’ll run big.”

Three weeks to crank The Zombie up to the max. Nice slow work for him in the SA Sprint Championship.
I concur with Mike Smith, all this 4th place finish will do is make everybody forget about the Sprint Champion and increase his odds. What a bargain $$$$$$$$
This news from Trakus: “Capital Account (24.38, 12.29) had the fastest final splits when second in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship by 0.12s (in the final 1/4) and 0.20s in the final furlong. He covered six feet more than winner Coil, which equates to roughly three-quarters of a length, shorter than his margin of defeat.
