A group of trainers in California is working to reunite two
organizations–the California Thoroughbred Trainers and Thoroughbred
Owners of California—created when the Horsemen’s Benevolent and
Protective Association was dissolved is the state over a decade ago.
California Horsemen for Change, which organized a successful
campaign to overthrow the existing officers and board of the CTT within
the last year, is a grassroots movement led by trainer Darrell Vienna.
The following email was distributed by the group to trainers in
California, encouraging them to lobby their owners to help “save”
California horse racing by giving up the power they currently have and
allow trainers to share decision-making authority in contracts and
other important aspects of the business.
