Ryan
Moore, who shared last year's Cathay Pacific International Jockeys'
Championship in a three-way tie, won the title outright in the
competition held at Happy Valley on the night of Dec. 8.
Moore, who scored 24 points, is making a habit of winning international
jockey competitions after capturing the World Super Jockey Series last
month in Japan. He won the Cathay Pacific title with two wins in the
four-race competition.
Twelve internationally-known jockeys took part this year. Julien
Leparoux, representing the United States, did not score with his four
mounts, finishing fifth, sixth, ninth, and 12th. Scoring was on a 12-6-4
basis for first through third.
A three-time champion in Britain, Moore was at his best on both his
winners. He got off to a dream start when producing the Tony
Millard-trained Something Special with a storming run under a
power-packed ride on the outside of the field, running down the Olivier
Peslier-ridden Jolly Wongchoy by three-quarters of a length.
