Rodman Works Fast for Whitney

Whitney invitee Rodman, most recently third in the Grade 2 Suburban, worked five furlongs this morning in 59.77 in his final serious move for Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile race.

“It was a little faster than we wanted, but he had a target in front of him, so it wasn’t that surprising,” said Mike Hushion, who trains the 6-year-old son of Maliibu Moon for Barry K. Schwartz. “It was his typical, strong, five-eighths work for his race.”

Rodman is 1-2-1 from four starts this year, including a solid runner-up finish to fellow Whitney hopeful Tizway in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park on Memorial Day.

Also on Saturday, Hushion will send out Roman Treasure and Ava K. in Saturday’s seven-furlong Test for 3-year-old fillies. The duo breezed this morning as well, with Ava K. covering four furlongs in 51.06 and Roman Treasure working five furlongs in 1:01.16.
