Remington: Asmussen Reaches 6,000 Wins

On his 46th birthday, Steve Asmussen became the fifth trainer in history to record 6,000 wins when Basalt won the first race at Remington Park Nov. 18.

Asmussen now trails only Dale Baird (9,445 wins), Jack Van Berg (6,409), King Leatherbury (6,331), and Jerry Hollendorfer (6,056) on the all-time list.

Asmussen, whose family operates a training center in Texas and whose brother, Cash, was a successful jockey in Europe, began his career in racing as a jockey at age 16.
