Remember This Race?

Remember This Race?

Race Clue #1 - Three of the horses in the field would win an Eclipse Award the same year; none of them won this race.

Race Clue #2- This was the final victory in a five-race winning streak for the winner of the race.

Race Clue #3 - The only horse from this race to make the Hall of Fame finished third.

Race Clue #4 - This may sound strange, but the race favorite ran a very good race only to finish fourth.

Race Clue #5 - He’s won bigger since, but at the time, this was the most important victory for the well known winning owner.

Race Clue #6 - Unfortunately, the winning trainer has since passed away.

Race Clue #7 - The lone Breeders’ Cup Classic winner in the field could only manage a fifth place finish.

Race Clue #8 - With well over one hundred editions, this historic race remains an important one on the racing calendar.

Race Clue #9- Three different Breeders’ Cup races were won by horses that competed in this race.

Race Clue #10 - Not only was the winner the oldest horse in the race, but he was also the only one to race in Europe.

You should know it by now … Tell me the race and the year!

The '80s was definitely an underrated decade in retrospect. There were so many top horses who ran, and actually faced each other in races other than the Breeders Cup.
I was there and actually on Love That Mac that day. He was sharp as a tack that spring.
Lady's Secret could've been a sprint champion too. She had so much natural speed that any horse that ran with her early was guaranteed defeat.
It was one of my favorite editions.

There you have it, folks. That is why Chris has been a horse racing trivia champ on ZATT many, many times.
The clues about the age of the race and that it was open to horses of any age couple with the fact that three horses in the race won Eclipse Awards made me certain it had to be the Met Mile. Then I tried to remember a couple of the really loaded editions of the race in the BC era. I was a huge Lady's Secret fan and remembered she finished third and it was a REALLY superb edition.
Nice one Chris. Got it way later than you.
How did you solve this one, Chris?
nicely done
Once again, the first guess is a winner ... Yes, Chris Miskell, it is the 1986 Met Mile won by Garthorn!
