Racing at Hollywood Park with Marc Doche: Dyrdek’s Weemissfrankie ...

It’s disappointing to see no two-year-old fillies ship in from out of town to chase the $400,000 purse in today’s Hollywood Starlet (Grade I) going a mile and a sixteen on the main track where we have just six runners.
 
The clear leader of the division in California is 7-to-5 favorite Weemissfrankie, in search of a third Grade I win in her fifth career start and coming off a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade I) over a sticky main track at Churchill Downs five weeks ago. The New York-bred daughter of Sunriver owned in part by MTV personality Rob Dyrdek has previously defeated three of today’s rivals and will likely need to turn in a sub-par effort to give any of the others a chance.
 
After finishing a length behind Weemissfrankie in the Oak Leaf Stakes (Grade I) two starts back, 9-to-5 second choice Charm the Maker returned to grind out a win in the Sharp Cat here on November 13. The daughter of Empire Maker continues to train forwardly in the a.m. and is likely to get first run on the favorite.
