Rachel Alexandra Filly superstar Rachel Alexandra justified her 1-to-5 favoritism in the Haskell Invitational with an easy romp over Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird in front of a crowd estimated at 41,000 at Monmouth Park. Rachel Alexandra took control by sweeping wide at the final turn and drew away over a field of six colts over a track labeled sloppy. I'll bet it's because doing cart wheels and backflips on the horse down the stretch is frowned upon... she's awesome though.
We noticed the same thing and agree it was strange that he hit her a few times... a tremendous win. As a bit of trivia, I'm wondering when was the last time that a Triple Crown race winner beat the winners of the other two TC race legs... as far as I can tell, it hasn't happened in 20 years...
Unbelievable display of class by Rachel despite the midget of a ride by Borel. Why did he go to the whip repeatedly in the stretch when the race was over long before the wire?
