Haskell Invitational with an easy romp over Belmont Stakes winner
Summer Bird in front of a crowd estimated at 41,000 at Monmouth Park.
Rachel Alexandra took control by sweeping wide at the final turn and
drew away over a field of six colts over a track labeled sloppy. Her
final time of 1:47.1 missed the Stakes record by just a fifth of a
second and was just two-fifths of a second off the track record for a
mile and an an eighth.
