R Heat Lightning Looks Strong in Gulfstream Oaks

R Heat Lightning
R Heat Lightning figures to be a short price when she takes on six rivals in Saturday's Grade 2 Gulfstream Oaks.

The Todd Pletcher trainee is by far the most accomplished runner in the field. After breaking her maiden in her Delaware Park debut last summer, the daughter of Trippi ran 2nd in the Colleen Stakes in New Jersey and won the Grade 1 Spinster at Saratoga. She wrapped up her juvenile campaign with runner-up efforts in the Grade 1 Frizette and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.

R Heat Lightning finished a disappointing 4th in her Forward Gal return and ran the race of her life when last seen romping in the Grade 2 Davona Dale at Gulfstream Park. John Velazquez takes his usual seat aboard the tactical threat.

Unbeaten and untested New York shipper It's Tricky has the best chance to knock off the aforementioned favorite. Kiaran McLaughlin's promising filly won her dirt sprint bow at Aqueduct last November and exits back-to-back inner track route triumphs. The Darley Stable runner has worked three times at Palm Meadows in advance of this engagement and reunites with her debut pilot Alan Garcia.

Salary Drive, Triune, Kindersley, Beso Grande, and Island School round out the competition.

The nine furlong Gulfstream Oaks goes as the 11th race on April 2.
