What the Nation is saying about Quality Road Doing Well Day After Amsterdam...

Quality Road still needs to be tested in my opinion. Granted, not much left in the three year old division to provide that test. The Amsterdam was impressive for sure, however, the jump to 10 furlongs will be interesting. As for his best race, the Florida Derby, let's keep in mind that he was lone speed in a short field on a track that was very biased to early speed that day. He'll find very different conditions come Travers Day.
  • TerriZ · Please don't forget that Quality Road has the track record at the Florida Derby which surpasses the times of Barbaro and Big Brown in the Derby at Gulfstream. Dunkirk had come from behind and briefly overtook QR; QR valiently fought back and won. I was fortunate enouh to witness his performance in the Fountain of Youth and the Florida Derby. He is the most exciting stallion since Big Brown. · 1022 days ago ·

Quality Road has handled the 4 month layoff well. Similar comments were made about Big Brown last year in his run for the Triple Crown. As both horses have similar hoof problems, long layoffs are a necessity. QR, according to his former trainer, always did what he asked him to do and he only had to tell him once. After all the injuries of wonderful 3 year olds this year, QR is the only one left who is capable of defeating Rachael Alexandra. He certainly did that with Dunkirk who left the Florida Derby a defeated horse. It should be an interesting Travers and I hope that all the horses are well after that race.
It's probably too ambitious, but when you have one of the best 3-year-olds pre-Derby, it's hard to not try and vindicate that standing with a run in the Travers. It's not like the others (sans Rachel) are really scaring you, anyway.
Looks like Quality Road is going to the Travers after record-setting Amsterdam return. Interested to see how he will handle the 10f test after a lone 6.5f prep.
