Flying
Zee Stable and partners’ Pulsion and seven other 3-year-olds will meet in an
allowance race Sunday at Gulfstream
Park going 1 1/8 miles in
a test that should identify one or more candidates for the $250,000
Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) on Sat., Feb. 20.
Trainer
Patrick Biancone recently confirmed Pulsion on target for the Fountain of Youth
as he makes his first start Sunday since finishing a troubled 11th of 13 in the
$2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita on Nov. 7, beaten 10 ½
lengths. Jockey Julien Leparoux will ride.
Prior to
the Breeders’ Cup, the $250,000 OBS March 2-year-old purchase by Include had
finished a game second in the Norfolk Stakes (G1) over the Santa Anita track on
Oct. 4, beaten only 1 ¾ lengths by Lookin at Lucky who was later named Eclipse
champion. Pulsion will be tested on dirt for the first time Sunday after making
all five of his juvenile starts on synthetic surfaces in California
Also likely
to attract strong support in Sunday’s race is WinStar Farm’s Drosselmeyer with
Kent Desormeaux aboard for trainer Bill Mott. A $600,000 Keeneland September
yearling purchase by Distorted Humor, Drosselmeyer makes his first start since
a six-length maiden score going a mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 18, his
fourth start after a third and two seconds.
Another
contender in the field Sunday that was an impressive maiden winner last out is
Gary and Mary West’s Best Actor, who scored by four lengths going a mile here
on Jan. 7 for trainer Wayne Catalano. Javier Castellano picks up the mount on
the $230,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Rock Hard Ten, who
finished second and third in three starts last year as a 2-year-old.
Completing
the field are Jack Conway’s Stately Victor, Edgar Prado; Lets Go Stable’s No
Shenanigans, John R. Velazquez; Casa Farms’ Prince Will I Am, Paco Lopez;
Michael Bruder’s Guys Reward, Jesus Castanon; and Bert Sonnier’s Jet Settin
Papa, Eduardo Nunez.
