Politicallycorrect came rolling down the middle of the track to catch
2-1 favorite Willy Beamin and win the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sunday
at Remington Park. He won by three-quarters of a length over Willy
Beamin, who edged third-place finisher Called to Serve.
Politicallycorrect ($22.60) settled midpack, several lengths behind
the pace set by Master Rick, who led through six furlongs in 1:12.29
while pressured by Willy Beamin. Willy Beamin took the lead near the
quarter pole, as Politicallycorrect came into the stretch six wide,
closed well, and went on to cover 1 1/8 miles on a track upgraded to
fast in 1:50.23.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux rode Politicallycorrect for Ken and Sarah
Ramsey and trainer Wesley Ward. The Ramseys and Wards won the 2010
Oklahoma Derby with Pleasant Prince.
