Paynter Could Miss Travers After Spiking Fever

Paynter with Martin Garcia race in the 2012 Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia California on April 7, 2012.
Paynter, who was an overpowering winner of the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Sunday, had an elevated temperature on Tuesday morning and, as a result, was not put on a scheduled flight back to California. His participation in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 25 is now in jeopardy, trainer Bob Baffert said Tuesday morning at Del Mar.

Baffert said that instead of flying Paynter back to California, he will send him by van to Saratoga, likely toward the end of the week. Regardless, he will not make any plans until he sees how Paynter is doing.

“I’ve got to get him well first,” Baffert said.

What the Nation is saying about Paynter Could Miss Travers After Spiking Fever...

Abit worrisome all the brightest get so burnt out. Eiyyy, hope it doesn't continue too.
Paynter "Will be OK" and will be shipped to Saratoga to prepare for the Travers-G1. Justin Zayat reports.
Man, we seem to be having a string of bad luck on the three y/o crop this year. I hope it doesn't continue.
This is just so upsetting to hear I hope everything is alright and he will be back on the road to the Travers.
