With over
sixty-five hundred entries submitted for their “Name Rachel’s Foal” contest, it’s
no wonder that Stonestreet Farm is taking their time in announcing a winner.
After all, this will be the first foal from one of the finest female horses
ever to step on an American racetrack, as well as, being the result of the
mating between the two horses (Rachel Alexandra and Curlin) who won three
consecutive Horse of the Year awards from 2007-2009 … heady stuff indeed.
Since I receive so many questions about what the name will be, and when the announcement will
be made, I decided to call on Stonestreet today. Here is what I learned:
“It will
probably be early summer before the final decision is made - so feel free to
let people know! We'll keep you in the loop.”
I know that’s
not the answer we were all waiting for, but at least it is the absolute up-to-the-latest information.
Jess’s
Dream, Preakness Promises, Vintner’s Legacy, Champion’s Vintage, Curlandra, Vintner's d'Oro and
yes, even Buttery Pancakes … it would seem the possibilities are endless. Good luck to the
decision makers on this important decision. In the meantime, I hope this new
photo, courtesy of Stonestreet Farm, of Rachel and (insert your name choice here) grazing, keeps you happy for the
time being.
