Trainer Marty Jones said Tres Borrachos, winner of Saturday’s San Diego
Handicap, came out of the race fine and that the Pacific Classic will be given
strong consideration for a next start.
A change in racing style, from forward placement to one run from off the
pace, helped produce the first victory for the 6-year-old Tres Borrachos in 13
races, dating back to an optional claimer on May 25, 2009 at Hollywood Park.
‘I watched the replay and Rafael (Bejarano) rode a great race,” Jones said.
“I was impressed with how patient he was. And the horse really seemed to take
to that change in style.
“We’ll keep watching him and see. If he’s doing well, we’ll definitely
consider the Pacific Classic.”
Carla Gaines, trainer of San Diego Handicap runner-up Kevlar Kid said that
the horse came out of the race well.
“We haven’t even discussed it, but there’s a good chance he’ll run again at
Del Mar,” Gaines said.
