Kentucky Derby winner Orb returned to the track at Belmont Park Wednesday morning, braving the rain and jogging a mile over a muddy main track with regular exercise rider Jennifer Patterson aboard.

Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey said the colt will resume galloping Thursday morning and likely will work on Monday before departing for Baltimore and the next leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness, at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, May 18.

The Triple Crown concludes with the 145th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 8.

“I thought he jogged really well,” said McGaughey. “I was pleased with what I saw. Seemed to be good and settled in, wasn’t all frazzled. He’s been eating really, really well since Saturday. It seems to me that all systems are ‘go’.”

“I was glad to get him back to the track and get him going again, and see where he takes us,” he added.

Owned by Stuart S. Janney, III and Phipps Family Racing, Orb defeated Golden Soul in the Derby by a convincing 2 ½ lengths for his fifth straight victory.
